Artist's Bio: LORI LOEBELSOHN As a professional illustrator, Lori's work has been published by Harper Collins, Cambridge University Press, Providence Publishing, and Eakins Press. In addition to illustration work, Lori spent a number of years painting traditional oil and water colors portraits, but she has recently focused on creating a more symbolic type of portrait that Lori calls, “Life Cycle Portraits.” These paintings were influenced by early American quilts, medieval Jewish wedding contracts (Ketubot) and manuscripts. These paintings have evolved to include both religious and secular images woven together to depict significant events from the subject’s life. She has been commissioned to create paintings for a variety of life cycle events, including, births, B’nai Mitzvot, weddings, housewarmings, anniversaries and even a 100th birthday celebration. Lori has used a similar technique to create intricate and highly decorative posters and illustrations. For BluewaveNJ, a progressive political group in Montclair, NJ, Lori created symbolic paintings for the 2006 and 2008 elections. Prints of the painting have been given to many public officials, including Governor Corzine, Governor Codey, Senator Feingold, and Senator Menendez. Lori recently created a poster for Bike Montclair, a non-profit bicycle and walking advocacy group and for the Ashenfelter 8K Classic, a nationally recognized race. Lori has marketed her work by merchandising it on t-shirts, coffee mugs, posters and invitations. In addition to completing new life cycle portraits, Lori is working on a children’s book about a young girl’s experiences during the Battle of Brooklyn in August 1776, a pivotal battle of the American Revolution. |
