Bike&Walk Montclair began in 2002 with a few local bike commuters talking about bike lanes and family bike rides, and a catchy phrase, ” I like Montclair — I Bike Montclair!” The name stuck and Bike Montclair was founded by a small handful of dedicated volunteers.
2009/2010 proved to be a monumental year for Bike&Walk Montclair. They changed their name and became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, developed a website and established an organization structure made up of a Board of Trustees, Officers, Committees and Advisory Board.
Bike&Walk Montclair has become one of the most effective advocacy groups in New Jersey. They have been a leader in ground-breaking initiatives like Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, Bike Rodeos and many education and safety initiatives, and have helped the Township of Montclair receive more than half a million dollars in grant money. Bike&Walk Montclair is well known for its annual Tour de Montclair ride. Bike&Walk Montclair participates in statewide and national conversations about how to make local roads safer and communities more livable for everyone.
