Lori was commissioned by Temple Ner Tamid to create an original work of art as a gift to Rabbi Steven Kushner from the congregation on the occasion of his retirement. Rabbi Kushner has led the congregation since its beginning when the newly formed Reform synagogue merged with a Conservative synagogue in 1980. The central imagery in the painting represents the Eternal Flame, which translates to the name of the Temple, Temple Ner Tamid. Within the painting the words, “On three things the world stands, Torah, Service and Acts of Loving Kindness.” This painting was a collaborative effort between Lori and the leaders of the committee as they tried to create a painting that was both personal and represented the main principles on which the Temple was founded. Lori was inspired by the stained-glass windows that sit behind the bema and have been the backdrop of many religious services. The framed painting was presented to Rabbi Kushner at his formal retirement party on April 29, 2018.  Read more here about Rabbi Kushner’s huge impact on the Jewish Community in New Jersey here:
